ChildFund Vietnam and the Gender-based Violence Prevention Network in Vietnam (GBVNet) join hands to prevent the harmful effects of tobacco on children

ChildFund Vietnam and the Gender-based Violence Prevention Network in Vietnam (GBVNet) join hands to prevent the harmful effects of tobacco on children.

“This is the first time for a network of social organisations to participate in joint monitoring of students’ awareness and attitude about the harmful effects of tobacco and the reality of tobacco usage” – shared Ms. Hoang Tu Anh, President of GBVNet.

This is an activity of the network to strengthen the implementation of the Law on Prevention of Tobacco Harms, raise awareness of schools, women’s and children’s rights organisations about the harmful effects of tobacco and the Law on Prevention of Tobacco Harms, and strengthen the cooperation of social organisations in the prevention of tobacco harms. There have been 26 secondary schools from 8 provinces across the country participating in this activity, including six schools in ChildFund Vietnam’s three project areas: Cao Bang, Bac Kan, and Hoa Binh.

After the workshop to share monitoring results held on 17 May, with technical support from GBVNet organisations, schools have developed a communication plan on tobacco harm prevention for students. This May, before the end of the 2022-2023 school year, Bac Kan and Na Khoang Secondary School (Bac Kan province) and Doc Lap Secondary School (Cao Bang province) will organise communication sessions for students. The remaining schools will develop regulations, put up signs and organise communication sessions for students at the beginning of the new school year.
