ChildFund Vietnam and the Ethnic Minority Education Department organised a fact-finding trip and workshop to receive advice on developing a draft Circular regulating on organisation and operation of ethnic minority semi-boarding schools.

On 19 – 20 April 2022, representatives from the Ethnic Minority Education Department organised a fact-finding trip at some ethnic minority semi-boarding schools and schools with semi-boarding student in ChildFund’s project areas with the aim to draft Circulars to replace Circulars 24/2010/TT-BGDĐT and 30/TT-BGDĐT regulating on organisation and operation of ethnic minority semi-boarding schools.

After the visit to Duc Thong Ethnic Minority School, Quang Trong School (Cao Bang Province) and Na Khoang School (Bac Kan Province), the representatives learned more about ChildFund project’s support activities for the schools, the reality in organisation and management of the schools, and the difficulties and challenges faced when the schools implement related regulations and policies.

Also during this trip, the Ethnic Minority Education Department coordinated with ChildFund to organise a workshop to receive comments on the draft Circular regulating organisation and operation of ethnic minority semi-boarding schools. Attending the workshop were 105 delegates from 15 Departments of Education and Training, 15 ethnic minority semi-boarding schools/schools with semi-boarding students from 15 districts in Bac Kan and Cao Bang provinces. Participants actively shared information and contributed 15 comments focusing on core issues in the Circular.

In the event, Mr. Le Nhu Xuyen – Deputy Director of the Ethnic Minority Education Department and Chair of the workshop shared: “The Ethnic Minority Education Department realizes that the organisation of the workshop is necessary and in line with the consultation process in developing this draft. Ideas are derived from practice and the collective will of Cao Bang and Bac Kan provinces in order to develop suitable policies in the new period”.

With the companionship of the Ethnic Minority Education Department, the Department of Education and Training of Cao Bang and Bac Kan provinces, ethnic minority semi-boarding schools and schools with semi-boarding students in the area of project “Safe and supportive semi-boarding schools for students”, ChildFund Vietnam will continue to carry out activities aiming at well-managed ethnic minority semi-boarding schools, as well as semi-boarding students who can develop self-protection skills and live in a safe, friendly environment.
