On 14 May 2022, the project “Safe and Supportive Semi-boarding Schools for student” held a workshop to collect comments on guiding documents for the management, education and care of students in ethnic minority semi-boarding schools and schools with semi-boarding students. The document was developed in collaboration between experts from the Department of Ethnic Minority Education (Ministry of Education and Training) and ChildFund Vietnam.

Attending the workshop were 50 members from the Department of Education and Training of Bac Kan province, Department of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs of Bac Kan province, Division of Education and Training of Ngan Son district (Bac Kan province) and Thach An district (Cao Bang), health centres of Thach An and Ngan Son districts, Division of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs of Ngan Son district and representatives of 7 ethnic minority schools and schools for semi-boarding students. Participants provided feedback and suggestions on standards and indicators in five areas: Accommodation for semi-boarding students, Child protection, Specializing education program, Nurture for semi-boarding students, and Health care for semi-boarding students. Contributions will help to adjust and add more indicators to the document that is suitable for user groups.

Mr. Luu Van Minh – Principal Official of the Department of Ethnic Education, in charge ethnic minority semi-boarding schools – participated and shared: “The document is a handbook to help administrators, teachers, and staff who are directly managing, educating, and caring for semi-boarding students to improve their knowledge and understand the regulations and standards to organise the implementation and effectively implement the school’s specific tasks. At the same time, they will be able to apply the document to strengthen communication, mobilize the cooperation and participation of parents, students and the community in the management, education, care and nurturing of semi-boarding students.

After this workshop, ChildFund Vietnam will continue to work with stakeholders to finalize the document and support its application in project schools.
