“Peng pha” cake (or “sky cake”) is a specialty of the Tay ethnic group in Ba Be, Bac Kan province. Although the cakes are small, they are made of many ingredients and possess a very unique flavor.
The main ingredient for “Peng pha” cake is high quality glutinous rice, grounded into to a fine powder, then kneaded with tea instead of filtered water like other cakes. While kneading, some alcohol will also be added to make the cake more fragrant. Since glutinous rice flour is very sticky and prone to losing its shape, Tay people often fry the cakes in hot oil right after shaping. After the cakes turn golden brown, they will be taken out, submerged in melted cane sugar and then rolled in a layer of roasted glutinous rice flour.
“Peng pha” cake is often made by Tay people on New Year’s Eve as an offering to their grandparents and ancestors to show respect. Today, along with the development of tourism, this cake has grown from a traditional dish of the Tay people to a special souvenir for tourists every time they visit Bac Kan province. Have you had a chance to try this cake?
The air conditioner will continue to run at the same speed even if you set it to the lowest temparature. The number shown on the controller is not the temperature of the airflow, it is the limit so that the air conditioner knows when it needs to reduce the cooling intensity. For example, when you set the temperature to 24 degree Celcius, the air conditioner will consider that as the target temperature and when the room reaches 24 degree Celcius, the air conditioner will automatically reduce wind to maintain that temperature.
In addition, the closer you set the air conditioner temperature to the outdoor temperature, the more money you’ll save.
This is only true when you go out and do not use the air conditioner for a long time. If you turn off the air conditioner before going out and turn it back on again after a short time, the air conditioner will have to consume more electricity to start up and cool your space. If you need to leave for less than an hour, it is better to turn the air conditioner up a few degrees instead of turning it off completely.
The quality and longevity of the air conditioner is not based on its newness, but on the frequency and intensity of use. You should check the air conditioner periodically to make sure it works well and is clean, to avoid having it dispersing harmful dust built up during operation into your living space.
Fans don’t cool the air, they only circulate air in the room, so while fans may make you feel cooler, they don’t actually reduce the room temperature. And since air conditioners only reduce wind when the room temperature has reached the set threshold, using fans do not help air conditioners to use less electricity.
