“Protecting children on the internet is a shared responsibility of the whole society” – this is a statement made by delegates at the workshop “Practices and solutions to protect children in the online world” organised by the Vietnam Information Security Association (VNISA) in collaboration with the Vietnam Cybersecurity Emergency Response Team/Coordination Centre (VNCERT/CC) held in Hanoi on the morning of 24 November.

Within the framework of the annual events on the occasion of Vietnam Information Security Day 2022, the seminar attracted the participation of representatives from the Department of Children Affairs (DOCA), Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs; Vietnam Information Security Association; Department of Information Security, Ministry of Information and Communications; ChildFund Vietnam and many businesses operating in this field such as Youtube, CyberPurify, etc.

At the workshop, the delegates pointed out that the strong development of the Internet and smart devices has opened up many opportunities for children to study, play and explore the world, but at the same time children still face negative impacts caused by inappropriate and false information on the Internet and potential risks of abuse. Creating a healthy online environment and equipping children with digital skills to use the Internet safely is extremely necessary.

Speaking during a panel session at the workshop, Mr. Do Duong Hien – ChildFund Vietnam’s Online Safety Specialist said: “ChildFund is one of the first organisations to prioritise child protection online since 2017. We have interventions and approaches that are well aligned with the concept of digital vaccines mentioned by Mr. Dang Hoa Nam (Director of DOCA). We prioritise education besides preventive and protective measures. In the early stages, ChildFund focuses on equipping children with knowledge and skills to use the Internet safely and making them aware of the risks in the online environment.”

PROJECT AREA CULTURE: DA RIVER GRILLED FISH

The Muong Ethnic people who have lived for a long time in Hoa Binh have many unique and traditional delicacies. One of the prime dishes is the grilled fish of Da River that can excite any visitors.

In order to make grilled fish, the fish must be carefully chosen. After being roughly cleaned, the fish is soaked in salt water to get rid of any impurities. People use bamboo sticks to form a grill. Before grilling, the fish are also salted and then put on the charcoal grill until they are edible. Grilled fish then will be displayed on green banana leaves, served with other kinds of seasonal leaves. The leaves are full of sweet and sour taste, both overpowering the fishy taste and stimulating the taste, thus creating a perfect combination with the flavour of the grilled fish.
